Audience theory 1

 Hypodermic needle model

1) Read this Mail Online article about the effects of videogames. How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?
- its injecting false stats of experiments that overtime aggression is developed to playing violent games more

2) How does coverage of the Talk Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?

3) What do you think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media?
people would criticise why the front cover had the child's face covered that they include the 'single mother' aspect making the demographic group of single mothers feel to justify they are not included.

Two-step flow model

1) Summarise the two-step flow model. What is an opinion leader?  media messages do not directly influence the entire audience, but rather are filtered through influential individuals.

2) How do celebrities like Taylor Swift fit into the two-step flow model?  acting as powerful, modern opinion leaders. Information and messages originate from mass media and are then filtered, interpreted, and disseminated by Swift and, in turn, her vast network of highly engaged "Swiftie" fans.

3) In your opinion, is the two-step flow theory still relevant today? Yes, in my opinion, the two-step flow theory is still highly relevant today, though it has evolved significantly in the digital age. The core premise that media messages are mediated by influential individuals before reaching the broader public remains a powerful concept for understanding modern communication, especially with the rise of social media influencers and online communities.

Uses and Gratifications theory

1) For each of the four categories, write about one media text (e.g. film, TV programme, newspaper etc.) that fits that particular audience use or pleasure. Make sure you explain WHY it fits the category and use images or clips to illustrate your points. The first one is done for you.

Diversion: Film - Blinded By The Light. Entertaining and offering escapism for fans of Bruce Springsteen or anyone that enjoys coming of age films or culture-clash comedies.

Personal Relationships: Gogglebox is a British reality television series where a cast of ordinary families and friends across the UK watch and comment on the week's best and worst television programmes.

Personal Identity: RuPaul's Drag Race is a reality competition television series where drag queens compete for the title of "America's Next Drag Superstar." The show has evolved into a global phenomenon with numerous international spin-offs.

Surveillance: Panorama is a long-running BBC current affairs television programme that conducts investigative journalism into a wide range of topics, including political scandals, social issues, corporate misconduct, environmental concerns, and global crises.

Dependency theory

1) Do you agree that audiences have become dependent on the media? What evidence or examples can you provide to support your view? More dependent as its easy to access in today generation and how AI and other online platforms are advertised to entertain and information

2) How has the growth of new and digital technology in the last 15 years changed people's dependency on the media? Is this a new problem? in 15 years people have become more dependant as AI can help in all situation, almost making them lazy as its used to get things done. Its a problem as people aren't learning fully through the academic way instead through the internet.

3) Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? What is your average screentime and how does this impact on your mood? Currently media impacts me badly , it makes me somewhat depressed seeing how fake people have changed for the media . My screentime is less recently as media gets bored and mainly make the consumers feels insecure.
